Health Coaching Overview
What exactly is health coaching?
Health coaching is a partnership between you and the coach, in which both work side-by-side to help you make any health behavior change.
Health and wellness are much more than diet and exercise! Health coaching uses a holistic lens, viewing your wellness as multidimensional
We can work toward goals in any of these dimensions:
Flight coaching has supported clients with the following areas of wellness:
- Diet and Exercise
- Financial growth
- Fun and Recreation
- Medication adherence
- Work-Life Balance
- Mindfulness
- Stress Management
- time Management
- Tobacco Cessation
- And Much More!
What health coaching is not:
- Diagnosis and treatment
- Life-coaching
- Personal training
- Therapy
- Telling you what to do
Health coaches are experts in human behavior change. Their role is designed to work alongside other health professionals (e.g., registered dieticians, personal trainers, physicians, therapists) to deliver you the best possible care.
For example, your dietician provides you with a meal plan; a coach’s role is to help you with the nitty-gritty in adopting and adhering to said dietary plan.
Why and How does coaching work?
Coaching is effective because it allows you to be in control, providing you with autonomy, in order to build self-efficacy and eventually form life-long habits.
Imagine yourself as the pilot in full control of the vehicle, with your coach as your co-pilot helping you navigate from point A to point B.
Coaching is a combination of art and science, as coaches utilize a series of cognitive and behavioral theories and processes (e.g., appreciative inquiry, motivational interviewing, positive psychology, self-determination) as “tools.” Coaches are trained to employ the appropriate “tool” at the optimal time to elicit motivation and foster change.

How can coaching benefit me?
As an individual
Coaching is a rewarding and fun process that has been shown to help: attain personal and professional goals, become one’s best self, develop a sense of purpose, form new habits, and increase self-awareness, self-efficacy, and self-regulation.
As an employer
With occupational burn-out and lifestyle-related chronic conditions on the rise, the need for improved employee health in today’s workplace is apparent.
Coaching targets modifiable risk factors through uniquely individualized care that easily fits into your employees’ busy schedules. It can be a great way to show your employees how you care for their well-being.
Coaching can improve your employees’ health, therefore reducing healthcare costs, and increasing productivity, retention, and job satisfaction.
As a provider
It’s no secret healthcare providers are stretched for time, especially in our currently congested healthcare system.
Coaches can help avoid or reduce provider burnout by working with providers to reduce patient load.
Coaches can help your patients identify goals and develop sustainable health habits to reinforce your care plan and achieve desired patient outcomes.
